  • October 30, 2010; Happy Valley, Hong Kong {Bledisloe Cup: New Zealand vs. Australia}<br /> Australia fought back in the end to pull off the win against the All Blacks, which made for an incredible rugby match!

  • October 29, 2010; Kennedy Town, Hong Kong {Red Rope Bears}<br /> ICM's Red-Rope Project provides jobs for skilled Filipino craftswomen struggling to support their families. These hand-sewn Teddy Bears will be sold at the ICM Hong Kong Banquet on November 18th in order to raise money to fund next year's Malnourished Children Outreach.

  • October 28, 2010; Central, Hong Kong {Stone Step Street}<br /> Buried inside a tiny costume shop on Stone Step Street with all the other last minute Halloween shoppers. Mel found the perfect costume; Greek goddess it is!

  • October 27, 2010; Kennedy Town, Hong Kong {Sewage Saga Cont.}<br /> Someone upstairs flushed a plastic bag down the toilet. No problem for them, big problems for us...our apartment flooded again. Poor Sarah is just trying to move out and this is what she gets, an apartment full of poo. Thank goodness for Glade Air Spray!

  • October 23, 2010; Kowloon, Hong Kong {Avenue of the Stars} <br /> From 'Eat Pray Love' to Festival Walk to iSQUARE, Mel & I decided to end our day of adventure at the Avenue of the Stars along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront with Jackie Chan.

  • October 22, 2010; Kennedy Town, Hong Kong {The Mysterious Mind} <br /> Typhoon Megi turned northeast last night, heading away from Hong Kong, although it is still overcast and windy. I walked down to the harbor to see what the sea looked like and sat for a while. There were a lot of people sitting...just staring out at the ocean. I wondered what they were thinking. Out of all the things they've seen and the places they've been and the heartaches they've had and the rich moments they've treasured, what was it from all of those things that now occupied their mind?

  • October 21, 2010; Wan Chai, Hong Kong {Severe Typhoon Megi} <br /> The Tropical Cyclone Warning was raised to a No. 3 as I was leaving work tonight. That means wind speeds of 41 to 63 kilometers per hour are expected. I've never been in a Typhoon, so I did some research and found some precautionary announcements for a No. 3 warning:<br /> <br /> 1. HONG KONG OBSERVATORY: Make sure that all loose objects are secure. Porch furniture, flower pots and other objects likely to be blown away should be taken indoors. ME: Great news!!! My old mattress that was ruined by the sewage flood is currently sitting outside on our terrace. I'm hoping the Typhoon wind sucks it up so I don't have to deal with it any more.<br /> <br /> 2. HONG KONG OBSERVATORY: Storm water drains should be cleared of leaves and rubbish, this applies particularly to dwellers in low-lying areas. ME: I am on the first floor so I definitely classify as low-lying dweller. Does this apartment even have storm drains? Probably not; if it did, I don't think I'd have that small pond on my floor every time it rains.<br /> <br /> 3. HONG KONG OBSERVATORY: Since seas are rough and there are swells, you are advised to stay away from the shoreline. ME: I'm glad I'm advised to stay away from the shoreline, but I LIVE on the shoreline. Is there a 3b?<br /> <br /> 4. HONG KONG OBSERVATORY: People should avoid walking or working in areas exposed to high winds. Drivers using highways and flyovers should be alert to violent gusts. ME: Okay, they just ruled out the ENTIRE city...<br /> <br /> 5. HONG KONG OBSERVATORY: Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's web site for information on the tropical cyclone. ME: Assuming I successfully get rid of my horrid mattress, don't get washed away in my low-lying dwelling area and can avoid getting sucked up by the severe wind while on my way in to work on the highways and flyovers, I can handle warning number five!

  • October 17, 2010; Shanghai, China {World Expo 2010}<br /> Over 1 million visitors visited the World Expo site on Saturday and another 700,000 today, pushing the total visitor count to over 65 million! Just imaging touring around Shanghai with that many people...

  • October 15, 2010; Shanghai, China {Bund18}<br /> Looking out over the Huangpu River at Shanghai's financial centre in Pudong from the rooftop of Bund18 after a long day at the Expo.

  • October 14, 2010; Shanghai, China {The Maglev}<br /> Recorded as reaching speeds up to 311mph, the Shanghai magnetic levitation train is the world's fastest train in regular commercial services. It was designed to connect Shanghai Pudong International Airport to the outskirts of the city with the intent to move massive amounts of people in the shortest amount of time. <br /> <br /> "Electromagnetic levitation: controllable electromagnetic field is generated by exciting the on-board levitation magnets and the magnets and stator packs of long stator linear motor along the guideway attract each other, thus pulling the train upward and a stable levitation gap being guaranteed by controlling the levitation excitation current.   • October 12, 2010; Kennedy Town, Hong Kong {Home Is Where the Heart Is}<br /> Skyping with my mom after a few very long days. She is the best!

  • October 11, 2010; Kennedy Town, Hong Kong {And then there was mold}<br /> To make a long story short:<br /> Philippines for 15 days. Apartment flooded with sewage while gone. Two inches high. Came through toilets. Bad pipes. No one home. Roommate #1 back from USA. Opened apartment door. Cried. Called helpers. Cleaned entire apartment. Flew home from Philippines. Empty apartment. Roommate #1 out. Opened bedroom door. Saw new shoes on floor. Ruined. Saw suitcase full of clothes on floor. Ruined. Saw something nasty on floor. Put two and two together. Sewage flood. Sick. Roommate #2 back from Canada. Roommate #3 back from USA. Roommate #2 and Roommate #3 upset. Third flood this year. Threw out new shoes. Took clothes to cleaners. Cleaners spilled bleach on clothes. Clothes cleaned. Clothes tie dyed. Threw out suitcase. Scrubbed floor. Cleaned sheets. Bed too heavy. Left bed. Flew to USA for 18 days. Flew home from USA. Opened bedroom door. Saw bed. Gasped. Mold growing on bed. Mold growing on comforter. Mold growing on pillows. Threw away moldy linens. Went to IKEA. Bought new bed. Bought new comforter. Bought new pillows. Went home. Slept in laundry room. Stayed in laundry room two weeks. New bed delivered. Old bed still there. Removed old bed. Found more mold. Put old bed in hallway. Prayed someone would take it way. Went to store. Bought cleaning supplies. Scrubbed mold off floor. Mopped floor. Cleaned walls. Old bed gone from hallway. Hallelujah. New bed still in box. Too tired to assemble. Posted 365 instead.

All of the money donated on this night directly benefits the poor in the Philippines. Like Hudson Taylor once said, "God's will, done God's way, never lacks God's supply."
